Unfortunately, it is a sad reality that we need to stay vigilant and to know how to spot a scam. Spotting a scam isn’t always easy. And it seems that scammers are getting better and better at deceiving us. There is nothing worse than losing money to fraudsters, and often this is money that we’re unable to get back.

To help you avoid falling victim to scammers, Veridata Insights has put together a few questions for you to always keep in mind.

Is it too good to be true?

If something seems too good to be true, it’s very possible that it is, so be wary!

Do you know this person?

Be vigilant if a stranger or someone you don’t know just contacts you out of the blue.

Is it a real company?

You can check if the company has a postal address and see if you can find the information about a company that you’d expect to be available online. It’s never a bad idea to do a quick internet search.

Have you been asked to pay money urgently?

Scammers will often try to panic you into transferring money quickly before you take the time to think things through. They try to fluster you and to create a sense of urgency so that you make rash decisions.

Have you been asked for personal information?

A scammer might ask for things like passwords or PINs.

Scams aren’t always obvious to spot, so it’s always best to take precautions and to remain vigilant. Even if it turns out that something isn’t a scam and is in fact genuine, you have little to lose by always staying cautious.
